Sometimes when someone uses [slur for unintelligence], it’s just a placeholder for “bad”. Still using a slur, which seems bad, though ableism is so deeply interwoven into most cultures that it’s pretty believable that the person forgot entirely that the word had anything to do with unintelligence.
Other times they have no alternative word when called out because they really did just mean to demean someone for not having some ability.
Which, like, hating people for not being able to do things is pretty shitty.
